Josh's 1962 Austin Healey Sprite is getting a little more spring in it's step. We're getting all of the front suspension back together and refreshed with new bushings to make sure it drives like new, then rebuilding all of the brakes to make sure it stops correctly without the modern conveniences like ABS. Since we still had a little time in the day the Sprite gets some doors as well!

great to see another sprite coming back together! Our bugeye has been in the family since 1968. for what its worth, the lever arm shock absorbers are designed from the factory to leak, (service item is to top up damper oil every 5,000 miles) Peter C from Worldwide Imports does an awesome remanufacture job on these, he also supplied uprated damper valves, and my front end is now awesome!! (as good as the topline KONI shock mod kit) slap a front sway bar and keep the rear end soft for true go-kart handling! check my channel for info on my bugeye if you are interested!

Not been jealous of any of the car's you've had or worked on till this... I've seen a few here in the UK, but they are super rare and usually rusty... You are lucky to have a good example. Take care of her.

spridgets (sprites and midgets) have been in my life from day one, dad's been racing them since the early 70s and is currently building a race car with a 200hp 4age with a 7afe bottom end

I had a 62 MG Midget which is the same car when I was in High School. Bought it for $150.00 lol. It was a blast ! Took that car everywhere ! But eventually after a year and a half I totaled it. But sold it for $150.00 !! So it's all good.

Should have read that workshop manual! It’s oil not grease for the steering rack on early Spridgets. And I hope the ‘ugga dugga’ was backed right off to 45 ft lb - it’s easy to snap the studs on these.

As a UK watcher I am loving most of your content on the amazing cars you get to drive or fix up. However I do need to correct something you said. The red piece on the front of the Healey is the valance and not a bumper as you called it. The bumper would be a chrome one with bumper irons that bolts to the chassis.

I'm not a Sprite expert, but am quite familiar with MGBs. On the B there is a combination of bubble flares and double flares in the braking system. Be sure to do a little research before making up your brake lines.

On nice still evenings I can hear them dynoing engines at the Novacek shop; took me awhile to figure out where the sound was coming from as I live about 2 miles south west. Went out one night and followed the sound of power!

Based upon your history of underwhelming efforts, you should not get near a car like this. Thankfully you have someone working with you who gives a damn about the final product - otherwise this would be a complete waste of time. It should not be long before CAMO wrap is put on that Austin Healey.

In the 60s, if you were wealthy in the UK, one of the combinations you might have had was an E Type Jag for the man and a Sprite for the wife!! I remember it well!!! If you ever see one, try and find the boot / trunk mounted luggage rack. It transforms the car! Great video, Thanks.

The steering rack to tie rod joint is too slack/loose. It needs to be tightened so it can support itself in the horizontal position then it is tight enough.

So are you planning any mods to the engine? How about some twin turbos, a titanium exhaust, a Holly EFI, and some headers. Bet you could get it to dyno north of 70 horses. Better do the disc conversion to stop the beast.

Car engineering from back in the day when an ordinary Joe could fix more or less everything. Amazingly, most of the parts are affordable and still available for these things. Not bad for a car approaching 60. Small engined it may be, but what a lot of fun you can have with one of these - including the pleasure of working on it.

My first car was a 63 Midget.. same basic thing as that sprite but it had bit bigger engine and disc brakes on the front. Had it for maybe a dozen years before somebody offered way too much money for it - next time I saw it, it looked like they went sideways into a street light pole, caved in all the way to the tunnel at the passenger door. Car had big sway bars front and rear and would corner like a go-cart, but a little sand or wet spot could have you driving with the help of the rearview mirror. Used to buy every MG Midget that would appear in the newspapers around tampa bay for sale - my dad had a picture of the back parking area he would show people... picture had 17 mg midgets, Healey 100-6, early 911 Porsche, early Corvettes.
