F in the chat boys. The first utility bills for the warehouse showed up and it was over $1,000. There are 48 8FT fluorescent fixtures in the big building and those cost a ton of money to run. The plan is to cut down on the fixture count and the power draw, we're installing 40 dimmable UFO high bay lights. First we'll rip out all the old power hungry lights, then try to cut down on the gas bill by fixing things in the little building.

What is the cost of a kilowatt hour of electricity in Witchata KS? We pay 2.89 Cents a KW, HAHAHAHA so to heat my 2000 sf house and a 2000 sf shop with 14 foot ceilings, December the bill was $150.00.

Don't get to excited about LED. Depending on brand you could have driver issues. And worst part after a year those lights could be obsolete. I have installed lots of LED's here at UNC - CH and we always have a few fail. One time we had the whole batch fail within one year and supplier would not honor warenty

I feel your electric bill pain, I had a building that was 328,000 sq. ft. the first electric bill was $2800.00.That would not do.So I determined that every step-down transformer, and there were many had a heat-up cost associated with it which means $$ per month. In the end I got the monthly non-use cost to $250.00.

A used oil burner stove would be a nice secondary heating source. If gas prices go thru the roof with Biden in office, your next year heating/gas bill will be incredibly high. Having a "used oil burner" furnace will pay for itself over one winter. All of the used oil you discard thru out the year would feed the furnace for atleast 1 winter month. Buy some 55 gallon drums, drop them off around town to your local Jiffy Lubes or Grease Monkey type garages and you could get more than enough oil to heat your shop for damn near nothing. Much cheaper than what your potential gas bills will be.. Just another option and it counts as a comment so this is a win-win! Best of luck and I'm enjoying watching you grow.

Check with your power company to buy back the lights in NC Duke will give you around $30 per fixture, and your cpa about EP Act 176d, you may be able to get .60 sq ft deduction for this upgrade. I sell LED lights for a job. The 176d depends if congress extended it or not. I hope you see this..

just trench the gas line yourself! surely it can't be that bad. I was told by our gas company here they charge $2 a foot to run gas line. That's for residential though, so maybe that makes a difference.

The current surge it takes to start a bunch of fluorescent lamps is very significant. Likewise the current surge to start those huge fan motors makes the meter spin like a gyro top too. The fan motors have a set of start capacitors for a reason! And that current surge to charge them is significant. Those will drive your bill up. That is why so many building owners just leave the fluorescent lights ON all the time. They take very little electricity to keep them going. Its starting them that sucks up all the current. This why I converted all my fixtures to LED tubes. No capacitors to charge and just 1/4 the electricity use!

Woulda been much cheaper just to replace the flourescent bulbs with LEDs. I have done that to my light fixtures in my home and garage where 4' bulbs were used. The LEDs are brighter and most importantly come on instantly. You can get bulbs to use with the flourescent bulb starters or remove the starters and get different LEDs. I've done both on different lights.

Sorry, but adding more lights that are led that you think will use less electricity, really won't do much. I have 55k sqft, mostly led lights, only turn on what I need and it hardly makes a difference. You have a commercial electric service, you get all sorts of wonderful extra charges just because of that. Probably a 150 to 200 minimum charge, service fee just for having it, demand charge, etc. Unfortunately you have to pay to play.
